Umeå IK women’s football team was founded in 1985 and has since then developed to be the world leading club for women’s soccer. Despite of the growing competition within women’s football – today there are 40 million practicians through out the world – Umeå IK is today one of the most well known and successful women’s football club in the world, both on and off the football field.

That started everything
Umeå IK was formed on 20 / 7 1917 on the initiative of the then only 17-year-old Helge "Pippi" Boström. Among the founders were, among others, Axel Emanuelsson, Ivan Johansson-Ekby, Gunnar Lindqvist and Helge Sandberg. The latter club egentlige founder under the notes in the old documents. In this bunch of guys IFK-formed first Tegs IF, but since most were city boys agreed at a meeting on temperance café that the name was changed to Umeå IK. This was the forerunner of our successful association added. As the motto was: "Sic itur ad astra - so goes against the stars." Probably had it already in the early 1900s existed a "UIK" on which the ordering of prices from Sporrong revealed that the firm had "UIK prices", which could now be bought at a much reduced price.

Now followed a flourishing period
In mid-1919 entry into the Swedish Sports Confederation. General sports, skiing and football combined with bandy winter were the dominant industries in the early years. 1924 was the following sections: general sports, skiing, football, bandy, cycling, swimming, gymnastics and boxing. In addition, junior section, the school section, Finance Committee and the secret committee. The latter one of many ideas from "Pippis" page. For example a "secret" document of what would be a no withdrawals from Umeå IK, something we hope never will happen.

Gammliavallen
A milestone for the sports club was the emergence of Gammlia vallen, opened 7 / 6 1925. Promoters and creator of this plant were foresters Wilhelm Ã…lund. Of course, it was a UIK member who had the honor of that first one have to break the finishing line at the opening ceremony. It was Hjalmar Lindgren as district champion in cross 10 000 m "for many cheers" accounted for the achievement. Earlier sport was largely conducted on the I20's sports.

Economy
At all times, it has been the economy that has been the large gray area in sports heaven. UIK no exception. The first two decades appear to have been marked by constant problems to the financial. 1936 improved the economy "substantially". Liabilities decreased by 600 kronor. This, by the great feast during midsummer weekend at Children's Time Square and the football match against the Hungarian team Szeged. Sources of income were not many during the first 35 years. Leisure Groups, membership fees, tombola and a constantly canvassed by businesses and supporters to get the wheel to go around. Danser organized also in Great hotel rooms and crimes dance at Folkets Hus in the early 50's also gave the beautiful coins in the cash box. Turnaround for the better came in 1958. There was dancing in Pakila, grappling initiated. This radically improved economy. For the 50-century was also another income-generating activities started. Idrottsaliansen - an association between IFK Umeå, Sandak SK, Gimonäs CK and Umeå IK - has brought to the clubs many beautiful coins through the years. Largest sources of revenue is bingo operations. A very large source of income has been "locomotive" Bingolotto the recent years.

Divisions
In Umeå IK over 80 years of existence has obviously many changes occurred in the different sections. Some have closed down or changed the focus and new has come.Athletics - or athletics, as it was the old days - and in the beginning UIK's most successful operations - were shut down in 1960. UIK's board confronted with a fait accompli by the completely unknown "bomb" in the press about all the athletes transition to IFK Umeå. For the Board, it was a hard blow, and even worse was the manner in which the club's athletes run the transition. Perhaps it was still the best thing that happened to get a viable athletics in Umeå. Bandy was discontinued in 1963. Much depends on lack of leaders and an increasingly declining interest on the active side. 1958 formed the bowling section. A very lively "newcomer", which was already empty overpast wrestling as the club's most successful division. Cooperation Agreement with Mariehems SK 1992 meant senior football range from club activities. For ten years is all power and energy on women football and with very good results. A-team back in 1996 took the step up in Damallsvenskan. Sejour was certainly only one year after a 10 th place and 12 points. But still a really strong performance. In autumn 1997, after a season in div I, took UIK's ladies step back up in the headlines. The success has been great. In autumn 2000, the team won its first SM (Swedish Championship) gold in 2001 and played everything possible to win in women football; SM-gold indoors and outdoors, and victory in the Swedish Cup. In addition, UIK in the very first UEFA Cup for the ladies. The club carries, as usual, a very lively youth activities among both girls and boys. Taken only - the label 'youth club' commits.
